August 6, 2005

Well today is the aniversary of the day we bombed Hiroshima. When Tak mentioned it the other day I played dumb because I don't want to get it messed up somehow. I play dumb a lot I've noticed and I'm pretty sure I'm gradually becoming dumb for real. So I didn't run into any of the black vans like Tak told me about. It would have been something to tell Pete, I'm sure he would have enjoyed a Nazi story.

I woke up with a craving for crepes -- its like Paris all over again -- so I went back down to Harajuku, which is like crepe stand central. There are some clothes I'd like to buy, but most of it is out of my budget, sigh. I followed a group of girls into a pretty good mall (man that makes me sound like a stalker). It ammused me when one of the stores was playing that Gwen Stefani song "Whatcha Waiting For" (or something like that), one of her couple of new ones that mentions Harajuku girls in it.

In one of the stores there was a very effective sales girl. I was wandering through, browsing and like my usual klutzy self I dropped something. Luckily I caught it, but this cute little sales girl saw me fumbling with it and got me to try it on. After fussing with it, I'll agree with her that it was pretty kawaii. It was reasonably priced too so I bought it. She did a good job, it makes me smile. I like to get caught up in other people's momentum sometimes.

So I'm sitting here resting by the park like area, milking a drink so I don't feel bad about sitting here. There's a family near me, looks like an English guy married into a Japanese family. The kids look mutish like me. What's interesting through is the toddler is speaking Japanese, but the father is speaking English.

Well, I'm halfway through my trip and I haven't been gropped or thrown into a peep show (or worse) yet, so ha to all of you!

I'm finding I wish I had those two around while I'm mucking about over here. They were both pretty intersting and I really liked Tak's accent. He reminds me a lot of facist Pete only with less profanity and crazy outbursts, somehow I can't imagine him blasting Rammstein in his Lexus while hailing Hitler in a frenzied manner like Pete.

In my wandering I accidentally wandered into what I guess was Meiji Shrine. I wish they were here to explain what was going on, but it was still interesting. I wandered out the other exit, looking for cicadas on the way. They make so much noise, I'd like to see one. I ended up in a residential area on the way back to the train station. Thankfully I didn't get lost, it wasn't very hard not to, all I had to do is skirt the train tracks.

I had intentions of going out that night, but after I took a shower I was asleep again. Hot showers after hot days do that to me.
